Description
Kalewa takes its character from an abstract arrangement of organic, pebble-like shapes drifting across an ivory ground, rendered in warm taupe, soft grey-brown and deep umber. Each rug is handwoven as a dhurry — a flatweave technique that produces a low, tightly-knit pile without the height of a tufted or knotted rug, giving it a clean, sit-flush profile that is easy to keep looking sharp underfoot. The material is pure wool, carried through in every shape’s fringed, hand-finished edge, where looped tufts of yarn trace the outline of each form and catch the light differently from the flat weave beside it. Reverse the rug and the sturdy woven backing shows the same craft discipline that went into the face. Measuring 220 x 330cm, it is generous enough to anchor a sizeable seating arrangement, letting sofa legs rest within its borders while it absorbs footsteps and softens the room’s acoustics. The neutral, earthy palette settles easily into contemporary interiors, tying together wood tones, stone finishes and soft furnishings without competing with them.
